Starting tomorrow, Ireland's largest selling national daily, the Irish Independent, will include Foinse, Ireland's newly revived Irish language newspaper. Foinse, which closed in June, will now be included in the Independent each Wednesday.
This will up the country's largest Irish language's circulation from the previous 4 500 before closing, to more than 152 000.
Foinse has always aimed to promote the Irish language as well as Irish culture. Says Editor Emer Ní Chéidigh, "this is truly a landmark day for the promotion of the Irish language. Not only is Foinse back in production but now through the established circulation of the Irish Independent, the Irish language will be brought into every household and family in Ireland."
The weekly insert also includes a seven-page spread with learning tools and texts for all levels of Irish speakers. This will allow for use in classrooms for test preparations as well as at home teaching.
Foinse employees five full-time employees as well as a network of contributors and correspondents. It will be available in Northern Ireland as well as Ireland.
