Three Ohio dailies to axe Tuesday editions
Posted by Helena Deards on February 4, 2009 at 5:12 PM
In Ohio, three publications owned by Brown Publishing Co. are axing their Tuesday editions due to the weak economy. The Troy Daily News, Piqua Daily Call, and The Sidney Daily News are the newspapers involved in the plans. Publisher Frank Beeson has said that the move is in order to avoid further redundancies, and that it is the Tuesday edition which has been sacrificed as it is the weakest day for advertising revenue.
The Ohian trio are by no means the first to take such steps. Many publications have responded to the global crisis by cutting editions, going online only, giving away free copies or in some cases going out of business entirely.
