WaPo writes obituary to Book Review section

The Washington Post has decided to close its Sunday stand-alone Book World section, with the last issue coming out on February 15th. The reviews will be moved to two other sections of the paper, but will continue to exist online.
The Book World section of WaPo was one of the last two surviving book review sections in the US, along with the New York Times Book Review. Marcus Brauchli, executive editor of the Post said that the paper will be experimenting with different types of book reviews. The book reviews will be now covered in Outlook, the commentary section and the Style & Arts section, reported nytimes.com.
The Book World section has been a reader's favourite for many years. Which was quite evident when contributors and readers started a 'Save the Book World section' petition to the editors of the Post. With this yet another devastating change affecting editorial quality in face of the economic crisis, many consider that the much-loved book review of the Post surviving online is somehow reassuring. Jane Ciabattari, president of the National Book Critic Circle, who circulated the petition, said that, "The only good news is that books coverage continues, and that the section is intact online."
