Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star Telegram team up on sports coverage

Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star Telegram have announced that they will begin to share sports content as of February 1st.  The News will be responsible for updates on the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars, whilst the Telegram will cover the Texas Rangers and the information will subsequently be exchanged.  Coverage of the Dallas Cowboys will remain separate with each paper.  Editor of the Morning News Robert Mong Jr said that the move 'allows both papers to reduce expenses, eliminate duplicative stories and still maintain high quality exclusive coverage'.
The publications will also share news on college sport and other events, although no investigative reporting or exclusives will be shared - and neither will the sports columns.  Star Telegram executive editor Jim Witt said that the one-time rivals will remain 'highly competitive', and both papers will be able to supplement any information they receive from the other.

This is part of an ongoing deal between the two, they already share arts coverage and have an agreement over distributing copies of the others newspapers.  Collaboration is increasingly popular amongst newspapers, and is a reflection of the need to cut costs and increase distribution during troubled times for the world of newspapers.
