Het Parool, one of the Netherlands paid-for daily newspapers has managed to fight dropping circulation figures by staying "local."  Het Parool has maintained a stable circulation figure for the last five years.

4-17-07_NET_HP.jpgFrits Campagne, publisher of the paper described how the paper remains loyal to its traditions in order to maintain strong readership figures and retain a strong position in the Amsterdam market.

Although the newspaper has been redesigned and switched from a broadsheet to a tabloid format, readership figures have not declined.  This is largely due to the content of the paper according to CampagneHet Parool covers local information in Amsterdam - news, jobs, dining, weather, traffic and such.

Het Parool has a daily circulation of 90,000, which is significantly less than national paper De Telegraaf who's circulation numbers top 725,000.  However, because Het Parool focuses uniquely on Amsterdam - it has been able to saturate the local market.
