Netherlands: Het Parool resists dropping circulation figures

Het Parool, one of the Netherlands paid-for daily newspapers has managed to fight dropping circulation figures by staying "local." Het Parool has maintained a stable circulation figure for the last five years.
Frits Campagne, publisher of the paper described how the paper remains loyal to its traditions in order to maintain strong readership figures and retain a strong position in the Amsterdam market.
Although the newspaper has been redesigned and switched from a
broadsheet to a tabloid format, readership figures have not declined.
This is largely due to the content of the paper according to Campagne.
Het Parool covers local information in Amsterdam - news, jobs, dining,
weather, traffic and such.
Het Parool has a daily circulation of 90,000, which is significantly less than national paper De Telegraaf who's circulation numbers top 725,000. However, because Het Parool focuses uniquely on Amsterdam - it has been able to saturate the local market.
