A study by Kerala's library council discovered that even though cable television is increasing in popularity, the Indian state continues to have a high readership of newspapers, books and periodicals, which regularly attract nearly 90% of citizens above the age of 15.
The state-led Literacy Mission found that Kerala is "cent per cent literate" since nearly 90% of the population has basic reading and writing skills, reports ChennaiOnline.com. UNESCO declared complete literacy in the state in 1991.
