Australia: Newspaper The Age returns to core journalism

Posted by Lauren Drablier on September 18, 2008 at 9:27 AM
After three weeks on the job, Paul Ramadge, editor-in-chief of Melborne's The Age, spelled out his vision for the paper.

In an interview with The Australian, Ramadge discussed his plans to return to core journalism. "The vision is about reinforcing the core values: break news, break great investigations, write with authority, set agendas."

He told The Australian that he believes that "every editor has to put his or her stamp on a paper. My stamp will be a bit different because I am determined to bring the focus back to words, I am determined to bring it back to a competitive hard-edge style of journalism that really matters, while recognizing that The Age is many things, many voices, there is light and shade, there is a bit of fun, there is wit, there is humor."

"The words are still very much at the heart of where The Age is."
