India: 12 million readers for new daily, Sakski

Sakshi, which means "witness" in the Telugu language, launched on 12 March 2008 and it is already enjoying circulation of 1.3 million and has 12 million readers daily. Sakshi is already the market leader among dailies published in the Telugu language.

The paper is staffed by 2000 editors and reporters, 68 photographers, and it has a distribution network of 9,960 exclusive agencies

According to the CEO, chairman and publisher, Jagan Mohan Reddy, "We will break even financially by the newspaper's first year anniversary."

How has Sakashi achieved this?

* Nine pages per week are devoted to 7-14 years old.
* Strong entertainment section.
* Highly localized coverage of sports
* Emphasis on topics of interest to women
* A strong online edition that is coordinated to make the printed edition a good companion
* Catering to young adult readers. Average age of readers: 27 years of age.
* Sakshi sells for 2 rupees, while its competitors tend to sell for 3. (One U.S. dollar is about 40 rupees).
