Yet another step towards digitalization of newspapers is taken as Readex, a division of Newsbank Inc. partnered up with the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) to create a large, searchable digital archive of international newspapers held by CRL and other major newspaper storehouses, Information Today Inc. reported.
Amongst foreign newspapers to be offered digitally are 35 Latin American (such as Brazilian, Argentinean or Cuban) titles from 1805-1922. Others include historical papers from Africa and South Asia.
American historical papers like Early American Newspapers and Hispanic American Newspapers may be cross-searched on the World Newspaper Archive.
CRL participants such as Harvard University, University of Texas and University of Washington have permanent access to the World Newspaper Archive. Meanwhile, everyone else will be offered access by Readex.
