US: LA Times publisher looks toward future, promises changes

In a memo to staffers, Los Angeles Times publisher David Hiller warned that the near future would be "tougher than ever before," and that staffers should expect major changes - including job cuts. Though offering few concrete details, Hiller made it clear that the Times was in the process of reinventing itself.
The company's depleted finances, he said, necessitate that the paper "move quickly, decisively on plans that help us build a sustainable LA Times Media Group for the long run."
Hiller envisions the future LA Times as a model of innovation. He says the paper will build up its digital business, create a multi-media newsroom, launch new products and services, and be the "best in the business in creating advertising solutions for our customers."
"We will continue to be the destination of choice for people who are passionate about inventing the future of journalism and community-based media," Hiller said.
