US: Tribune's papers slimming down
Posted by Liam Berkowitz on June 6, 2008 at 9:03 AM
The Tribune Company will reduce the size of its papers, trimming pages and editorial content in an effort to cut costs, BusinessWeek.com reports.
The changes will be implemented June 22 starting with the Orlando Sentinel. The company's other daily newspapers, which include the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and the Baltimore Sun, will follow.
The Tribune's announcement may raise some concern in the newspaper industry, but a smaller newspaper does not necessarily guarantee a smaller news section; it may just mean a more efficient one. Ask VanityFair.com's Matt Pressman, who recently discovered this paradox while examining the New York Times' news output in its reduced format.
