US: Cox Newspapers going mobile

Posted by Liam Berkowitz on June 17, 2008 at 2:57 PM
Cox Newspapers Inc., publisher of 17 daily and 26 non-daily newspapers, is launching today 19 newspaper websites designed specifically for mobile use.

The new sites will provide highly specialized, easily accessible news services, such as breaking local and national news, restaurant features, and movie listings.

"The sites represent a way for advertisers to reach a local and targeted audience on a mobile device," company officials said.

The sites will cover a wide geographic range, with ones already up in Texas, Florida, and Ohio.

Cox's announcement comes as experts continue to urge newspapers to target the mobile platform for distribution.
