UK: Northern Echo goes "green" for the day
Posted by Liam Berkowitz on June 6, 2008 at 10:22 AM
The Northern Echo, an English paper, published a special environmental issue yesterday to correspond with World Environment Day.
The paper, which changed its name for the issue to the Northern Eco, focused entirely on environmental news. The special edition was published on green newsprint, and featured a 15-year old guest editor, one of the UK government's "climate change champions." A 52-page supplement documenting local environmental progress was also included.
"Going green isn't something I'd do every day, but as a one-off initiative to make people sit up and take notice, I think it's been very worthwhile and the reaction has been very positive," said Editor Peter Barron.
The Northern Echo covers the north-east region of England and is based in Darlington.
