AU: Fairfax Media launches WAtoday.com.au

Posted by Liam Berkowitz on June 10, 2008 at 12:44 PM
Fairfax Media launched today Western Australia's first online only newspaper, WAtoday.com.au. CEO David Kirk hopes the site will be a "24/7 online publishing force in Western Australia."

Kirk says that the move reflects Western Australia's growing Internet market. According to Kirk, nearly 1/6 of Western Australia's Internet users already access Fairfax Media sites.

"There is unprecedented growth and development in Western Australia - it is a fantastic place to do business and we know that there is a strong appetite for an additional online news and information source," Kirk said.

Fairfax Digital CEO Jack Matthews claims that high demand from advertisers - inventory is sold out for the launch - bodes well for WAtoday.com.au's future.

"We are pleased to say we have the support of both national and local advertisers," Matthews said.

WAtoday.com.au will feature columns from prominent Western Australians, such as lawyer Patti Chong, and Dr. Fiona Stanley, former Australian of the Year.
