Asia: Taiwanese and Chinese journalists establish cross-strait journalism center

Taiwanese and Chinese journalists and educators have formed the Cross-Strait Journalism and Communications Research and Interchange Center, a project aimed at opening dialogue between journalists from the two historically sparring countries. The center will be located at the Xiamen University in China's southeastern Fujian Province.
There has been increased communication between Chinese and Taiwanese journalists of late. According to Zhang Mingqing, dean of Xiamen University's College of Journalism and Mass Communications, Taiwan journalists have made over 15,000 trips to China in the decade since the two countries renewed communication. Chinese journalists made nearly 1,000 trips to Taiwan during the same period.
The Center hopes to facilitate continued interaction between journalists by producing joint research programs, seminars, and publications.
