UK: Editorial swap at The Independent, Alton replaces Kelner
Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on April 10, 2008 at 8:50 AM
Roger Alton, former editor of The Observer, will become editor of The Independent, replacing Simon Kelner, who will become managing editor of both The Independent and The Independent on Sunday.
Kelner will retain his editor-in-chief title.
"I am immensely privileged to have the chance to work on The Independent, which is a brilliant and innovative paper, and represents an opportunity to build on the great achievements of past editors," said Alton.
Alton had quit The Observer at the end of last year after disputes over the merger of editorial staff from the Guardian and its Sunday title, The Observer.
