US: Spanish titles increase ad revenue and circulation

This week, the Hispanic Market Weekly released a special report that Spanish-language titles in large Latino centers in the U.S. such as Orlando and Los Angeles, are seeing revenue gains and circulation jumps, contradicting the downward trends seen across the newspaper industry.

At the end of 2007, there were 33 daily newspapers and 417 weekly newspapers targeting Spanish-language readers in the U.S. Weeklies have shown a 26.4% rise in ad revenue between 2005 and 2007, though dailies have not achieved such an increase.

Some possible reasons for this success: Hispanic's long-standing use of print, the growing popularity of weeklies, and community-oriented content which is rarely found in mainstream media and Spanish-language television.

"The future looks bright for the Spanish-language newspaper," states Against the Wind: A Special Report on the Hispanic Newspaper Industry.
