Ireland: 9 in 10 people read a daily newspaper, new survey finds

Irish daily newspaper readership continues to grow, with 88% of people reading a national newspaper, finds a recently released Joint National Readership Survey.

Other findings include:

-Ireland's daily newspapers attracted approximately 75,000 new readers in the past year

-three million readers get their information from a newspaper on a daily basis

-57.9% of Irish men read the newspaper versus 50.5% of women

-among the main three papers, The Irish Examiner and The Irish Independent showed readership gains of 7.2% and 6.5% respectively. The Irish Times had a 3.3% decrease in readership.  

The survey was conducted from January to December 2007.
