Africa: Caxton launches another community newspaper for growing area
Posted by Carolyn Lo on March 21, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Because of the extensive development in Johannesburg South, the area will be too big to be serviced by only one local paper. So, on April 9, 2008, Caxton will launch the Comaro Chronicle, another community newspaper, that will carry news specific to designated areas in South Africa.
As a result, the Southern Courier, the current community paper, will reduce its print order to 40,100 while the Chronicle will have 21,000 copies every Wednesday.
"Community newspapers have shown tremendous growth over the past 10 years from both a circulation and advertising point of view. They consistently demonstrate an immense return on investment for advertisers," Gill Randall, joint MD of the Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB).
The Comaro Chronicle will be distributed in Alan Manor, Bassonia, Bassonia Rock, Eastcliff, Glenanda, Glenvista, Linmeyer, Liefde en Vrede, Mondeor, Mulbarton, Oakdene, Townsview, Suideroord and Winchester Hills.
