US: Wall Street Journal mulls over 'Culture' section

A new weekly culture section for The Wall Street Journal may be in the pipeline. Such a move would bring the Rupert Murdoch-owned publication one step closer to the stated company goal of competing with The New York Times.

The new section would be on trend with recent changes at The Journal including talk of a sports section and a new British editor for the glossy magazine launch.

Former House & Garden editor-in-chief Dominique Browning, said to be overseeing the prototype, confirmed she was consulting at The Journal but said she could not discuss further details.

Journal managing editor Marcus Brauchli feels a new culture section would make the publication more comprehensive.

"In the news department here, we believe there is no reason that people should have to go to another news source beyond The Journal to find news of consequence to them in any sphere — politics, economics, even culture and the arts," he said in an interview with the Times.
