LA-Times-Blog.gifRuss Stanton, the newly appointed Business Editor at The Los Angeles Times, announced his plans to revamp The Times in a speech given on Feb. 14, reports blogger Pat Thornton.

His major goals to improve the paper include:

-a new breaking news blog, launched Feb. 13 (see photo)

-a video staff and improved video gear. Stanton also announced plans to hire a full-time instructor to train reporters on video shooting and editing

-a fully integrated newsroom, following the trend of integration seen at The New York Times  and UK papers such as The Times and The Daily Telegraph.

-a more local focus “all the way down to the neighborhood level”
