US: Four major publishers band together in new advertising venture

Four major American publishing companies have teamed together to create QuadrantOne, a one-stop online advertising sales network. The participating partners comprise The New York Times Co., Gannett, Tribune Co., and Hearst.
With the new venture, national advertisers can place content that will then appear on local websites nationwide. According to the company, the network will reach almost 50 million unique visitors per month, and cover 27 out of the top 30 markets.
This new partnership represents the second major advertising partnership amongst newspaper publishers. Yahoo entered into an partnership with seven partners in November 2006 (the partnership has since accumlated more members).
We reported in November 2007 that Gannett, Tribune Co., Hearst, Media News Group, and Cox Newspapers were in preliminary talks to create an advertising network. According to our sister blog SFN, The Chicago Tribune is reporting that MediaNews and Cox ultimately declined to join the network.
