US: Miami Herald to outsource copy and layout to Indian Mindworks

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on January 8, 2008 at 10:23 AM
The Miami Herald has said it is outsourcing part of its copy editing and layout design work to Mindworks, a prepress production firm based in New Delhi, India.

As part of a test phase, Mindworks will be in charge of a weekly section of Broward County community news and some other advertising sections.

The Herald will also outsource advertising production to Express KCS, based in California. Other Mc Clatchy Co. newspapers already use the services of Express KCS, including The Sacramento Bee, Modesto Bee and Fresno Bee.

Express KCS, which has a production facility in India, also handles ad production for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the San Jose Mercury News.

Outsourcing was identified by the Newspaper Association of America as one of the big trends for newspapers in 2008.
