UK:Spanish firm to redesign Mirror

Posted by Cyril Gros on December 10, 2007 at 3:03 PM
The Spanish firm Cases Associates is to redesign British tabloid the Daily Mirror.
The firm has already produced a top-secret dummy of a new-look Daily Mirror, which only six Trinity Mirror executives have seen.

Richard Wallace, Daily Mirror editor, who decided to revamp the tabloid, chose to introduce the changes step by step instead of a “big bang” relaunch. The familiar red-top masthead will certainly be kept.

The unveiled dummies have been created in preparation for the switch to full-colour production next year.

"One planned feature of the redesigned paper will be clear design differences between important weighty news stories and more lighthearted pieces". (From Guardian Unlimited)

Barcelona-based Cases Associats have acquired good experience and reputation since its creation in 1990 by redesigning such newspapers as the Independent, the Independent of Sunday and the Scottish freesheet Herald AM. The agency is known to produce very structured and modern design, which breaks from the traditional British tabloid look.
