Stand up for Journalism day

Today is Stand Up for Journalism day. The European Federation of Journalists voted to support action and events planned in 20 countries across Europe, in a protest against editorial cost cuts and worsening conditions for journalists.

“Content editors, photographers, reporters, sub-editors, producers, and newsreaders are saying enough is enough,” wrote Michelle Stanistreet, president of the British National Union of Journalists.

“As more and more companies cut staff, hold down pay, increase workloads, reduce budgets, axe pensions or compromise quality, journalists and editors should be united in campaigning for more resources.”

The rally coincides with the UK’s Society of Editors conference held in Manchester.
