Pro Publica draws journalist résumés

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on October 25, 2007 at 1:30 PM
It seems Pro Publica, the all-new investigative journalism venture, to be headed by former Wall Street Journal Managing Editor Paul Steiger, is receiving applications from all the major news outlets in the US.

Since Pro Publica’s was publicized last week, more than 300 résumés have been sent to its offices. According to the venture’s general manager Richard Tofel, there’s a résumé from “every leading news organization” in the country.

Pro Publica’s innovative business model – compiling articles and then selling them to existing outlets – sounds like a miniature revolution for the newspaper industry.

But Steiger cautions that “Pro Publica is not the solution to the crisis of papers nationally,” reported the New York Observer.

“The issues are way bigger than us. [ProPublica] focuses on one part of the significant journalistic equation,” said Steiger.

Nonetheless, newspaper analysts and papers ought to closely follow Pro Publica’s journey, and potential success.
