France: freesheets count on Rugby on World Cup

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on September 13, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Freebies Metro and 20 Minutes are both boosting coverage of the Rugby World Cup, which began on Sep. 7, through supplements and additional online features.

On Sep. 7, Metro published a 32-page supplement about the Rugby World Cup. And during the events, which run until Oct. 20, a daily 8-page booklet will also be published, carrying analysis of the games and events.

Likewise, 20 Minutes published a 24-page supplement on Sep. 7. 20 Minutes will also publish an 8-page booklet about the events, but only on Mondays. However, two full pages will be devoted to rugby every weekday.

20minutes.fr has also invited rugby players, a deputy and fans to produce live comment during games.

Major international sports events have always been a good opportunity for newspapers to reach a larger audience, especially since freesheets’ younger readership is usually sports-oriented.

Hello,

I have read your blog with great interest, and have a small request for
you.

We are a group of journalism students who are covering the sportsconference
Play the Game on Iceland.

Thursday Andrew Moger will be speaking at the conference about exactly this subject: Media and the rights to cover sports events.

We are hoping to create a dialogue on our page about the issue, and would
greatly appreciate if you would look by our webpage, www.thepulse2007.org,
and take part in the debate allready now!

Youre experience and knowledge would be very welcome,

Regards
Frederikke Toemmergaard
