Sweden: journalist union strikes harder
The SJF’s conflict with the Swedish Newspaper Publishers’ Association (TU) continues to escalate, since TU called for the lock-out of nearly 4,000 journalists during week-ends, effectively reducing their wages (after SJF threatened industrial action in an attempt to ameliorate working conditions).
Nearly all newspapers affiliated to TU will be affected by thease measures.
Among the clauses in SJF’s notice:
- No material is to be published on the web that has already been published in the print edition.
- Ban on contact with advertisements or advertising pages.
- No publication of material produced outside of the paper’s staff.
After contract negotiation between TU and SJF failed initially, mediators have gathered both parties on five separate occasions. All five offers were rejected by SJF (and accepted by TU).
