The New York Times Co. reported higher profits for the second quarter, thanks to the sale of its TV stations, but newspaper ad revenues dropped 6.9% over the same period.

Classified ads suffered the sharpest decline, down 13.4%, followed by retail, down 9.9%. National advertising, the most important ad revenue category in the company, slumped a mere 1.3%.
