France: Les Echos’ newsroom unanimous about Fimalac
In the wake of LVMH’s contested buyout offer for the business daily Les Echos, the French holding group Fimalac made a 245 million euro offer to owner Pearson, gaining the unanimous approval of newsroom staff.
Les Echos’ newsroom staff, which has been concerned about editorial independence were the paper acquired by luxury group LVMH, voted unanimously for the proposal by Fimalac.
Pearson’s representative reminded that the British media group was held to a period of exclusive negotiations with LVMH, but that it would take Fimalac’s offer into consideration.
In Fimalac’s buy-out offer, the company assured it wouldn’t proceed to layoffs and that it would protect editorial independence.
