Two UK publications target rail passengers with The Commuter

Posted by Mica Swyers on June 19, 2007 at 3:27 PM
The first edition of The Commuter, a collaborative effort between two Johnston Press publications, was distributed on June 18th to rail passengers traveling between Banbury and Bicester.  The Banbury Guardian and The Bicester Review hope to target the commuter audience in north Oxfordshire with their collaborative efforts on the free weekly.

Initially, The Commuter will have a distribution of 5,000 copies in the two cities' railway stations.  Designed to be read during commute time, it will contain summaries of major news and information from the two local papers as well as advertisements.

With the combined efforts of editorial and advertising staffs, both papers hope to reach out specifically to the commuter audience.  “We are delighted to extend the service we offer to readers and advertisers by reaching out to this new audience,” says Jason Gibbins, editor of the Banbury Guardian.

Rob Gibbard
, editor of Bicester Review, hopes that The Commuter will enjoy the same success as The Commuter Herald, launched last year by another newspaper owned by Johnston Press: “The Commuter Herald title launched by the Bucks Herald continues to go from strength to strength and we have every reason to believe that this new title will be equally successful.”
