The Bancrofts to meet Rupert Murdoch today
Today the Bancrofts and Rupert Murdoch of News Corp. are set to meet. The goal of today’s meeting is how to maintain journalistic integrity, at the Wall Street Journal in particular, should the Bancrofts sell to Murdoch.
News Corp. will work hard to maintain editorial independence but Murdoch indicated that he would be unwilling to give the Bancroft family any editorial control over the company, saying: “I can't put down $5 billion of my shareholders' money and not be able to run the business.” He added that he has “no plans to change anything” on the news or editorial sides of the paper.
Additionally, Michael Elefante, a partner at the law firm that represents the Bancroft family has changed his mind about selling to Murdoch, now saying that the company should consider a sale to Murdoch or another bidder.
