“Constructive meeting,” says Murdoch
“We had a very long and constructive meeting,” Rupert Murdoch said of his meeting yesterday with the Bancrofts about his offer to buy Dow Jones & Co. The key point of the meeting was for Murdoch to assure the Bancrofts that the integrity of the company would be maintained should they sell.
It was reported that News Corp. would, should the deal come to pass, explore giving a board of trustees the power to veto any deal and stop any one shareholder from owning more than 15 percent of the company without trustee’s consent – a policy similar to one used by Reuters Group Plc – in order to maintain journalistic integrity.
However, the Independent Association of Publishers’ Employees, a union representing over 2,000 Dow Jones workers, are seeking alternative bids that could better protect the integrity of the company.

Recently, I had to travel 420m on the M5 & M6 accompanied by my young boy of four & half. I took regular breaks for him at the roadside services. Twice on the journey, we went to buy a snack at the "drink & crisp shops" at these services. Usually he will stay in the car when I pay for petrol, but for obvious reasons, he came with me.
I was absolutely horrified - again! - to find pornography (yes, I say "pornography", because there is no such thing as "soft porn" - it is either porn or not) displayed eye level for my young, impressionable boy, not to miss!! The porn industry does not care a hoot about our children as long as they can get you to pay them for their degrading and shameful presentations. I had to distract him not to look at these challenging pictures on the front pages of the newspapers and magazines - we all know their names. In the past I have spoken to a shop manager on the same route about this issue, but he shrugged his shoulders as if to say "I do'nt care, frankly". So where is the freedom to be an innocent child? My 4 & half year old boy can not yet choose for himself. It is my responsibilty as a loving parent to teach him - the next generation - the rights and wrongs in life, otherwise who is? The greedy, moralless rulers of the porn industry, weakening a mans will before he can choose? What are we as educated & informed adults permitting to happen? No wonder there is a "lost generation" out there with whom battles are on to behave socialy acceptable. They did not have a choice! Are we so weakwilled that we will allow all kinds horrors to be shown to our precious children? Let allone this issue of global warming - there will be no one left to enjoy our "saved planet". SAVE THE CHILDREN!
