Canada: Globe and Mail relaunch

Canada’s Globe and Mail debuted a redesigned edition Monday, featuring narrower pages and a new Globe Life magazine-style section; at the same time, the paper launched a new business and finance website.
The full width of two pages in the new edition is 61 cm, as opposed to the previous 68.5 cm. The paper follows the Wall Street Journal in its attempt to produce a sleeker, easier-to-handle paper. The Globe and Mail also commissioned a new font, the same size as their old one but more efficient in use of space. This will allow for minimal loss of words despite the new page width.
The paper has also opened the right-hand column to allow for large-type text, permitting less use of hyphenated words.
The new weekday section Globe Life will focus on personal lives, providing magazine-style content about working life, family, and relationships.
Reportonbusiness.com will combine Globe and Mail’s online business coverage with financial data, analysis, and user interactivity in blogs and forums.
