The first speakers for the 60th World Newspaper Congress and 14th World Editors Forum, to be held in South Africa’s Cape Town from June 3 through 6, have been officially announced. The 2007 Congress’ official theme will be ‘Shaping the Future of the Newspaper’.
Among the first announced speakers are Antonio Fernandez-Galiano, CEO of Unidad Editorial (El Mundo) in Spain and Tomas Brunegard, CEO of the Swedish Stampen Group, who will speak about the integration of print and digital.

Also confirmed are Birger Magnus, Deputy CEO of the Norwegian Schibsted media company, and strategy guru Michael E. Raynor, co-author of the bestselling The Innovator's Solution, who is just about to publish The Strategy Paradox.

This will be the first time the annual conference will take place in Africa, and it is expected to draw more than 1,500 editors, publishers and newspaper executives. The events, lectures and networking opportunities are shaping to be richer than ever before.

World Young Reader Conference

In light of a recent study by the Carnegie-Knight Task Force on the Future of Journalism, which found that many U.S. newspapers fail to encourage students to use their online editions, the World Young Reader Conference will be held in Washington, D.C., from 24 to 28 March. The conference will feature case studies and editors who will explain who to enhance print usage along with innovative digital strategies for younger readers.
