Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on February 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM
The Elaph website reported that the Al-Arabiya newspaper is preparing to launch in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the months to come. Al-Arabiya’s coverage remains mysterious until now.

The Saudi media figure Abdallah al-Qunayir will be the newspaper's chief editor.

There is little information whether the coverage will be more local or international.

According to inside sources, Al-Arabiya will delve into issues relating to the Arab culture’s crisis and will try impact the cultural and social landscape of Saudi Arabia.

The newspaper has no links to the eponymous satellite channel. Al-Arabiya has reportedly already opened offices In Beirut, Washington, and regional ones in Saudi provinces.

A number of international correspondents have also been hired, and the newspaper struck partnerships with other newspapers to offer simultaneous publication of some articles.

To follow up on this still obscure daily.
