UK: Gannett says Newsquest is not for sale

Following reports yesterday that Gannett are looking at selling their 300 strong newspaper group for £1.5bn, Gannett released a statement saying "There is no truth in the report. Newsquest is a valuable part of the Gannett company."

Many of the regional newspaper owners in the UK have been ‘evaluating their options’ over the last year. Associated Newspapers looked at selling its regional titles, Northcliffe, but could not reach the price it wanted. Trinity Mirror is expected to announce plans about selling off one or more of its national titles later this week.
