Financial Times to drop 51 journalists
In joining its print and online divisions, the Financial Times is cutting 51 reporter positions, more than the 40 originally expected. Management has asked for voluntary redundancies, but despite protests from the National Union of Journalists, said that it will be obligated to lay off staff if not enough leave on their own will. A spokeswoman for the FT said, "Costs will be cut, but this is not about cost cutting, it's about restructuring the newsroom in a multimedia age. It is an editorial move."
