World's most influential commentators named
The Financial Times has selected this year’s crop of commentators judged most influential in their countries, published in the paper’s weekly supplement Saturday.
The 22-person list includes Hans-Ulrich Jörges of Germany’s Stern, Hu Shuli of China’s Caijing, Akiva Eldar of Israel’s Ha’aretz, Trevor Kavanagh of Britain’s Sun, Charles Krauthammer of the States' Washington Post and Adam Michnik of Poland, the Swiss 24heures reported.
There's also commentators most influential in countries other than their own, like Nigerian Dele Olojede, a Pulitzer winner for work in Newsday, and the New York Times' Thomas Friedman, whose writing on India garnered great attention in that country.
One, France's Nicolas Baverez, is not a journalist, bu was cited by the Financial Times for his influence, especially after his 2003 piece "La France qui tombe."
The commentators demonstrate lucidity for the present and a vision for the future, according to 24heures, and were selected above all for their spirit and style.
