UK: Iliffe buys Your Leek Paper
The independent newspaper group, Your Leek Paper Ltd., has been acquired by Iliffe News and Media for an undisclosed sum. Your Leek Paper Ltd. was funded by employees' redundancy cheques and created after seven staffers quit the Leek Post & Times, after it was sold to regional newspaper giant Northcliffe, to create their own newspaper
Iliffe News and Media is a subsidiary of the Yattendon Investment Trust, which is the fourth largest independent regional newspaper publisher in the UK. Although the paper has been bought, it does not plan to lose its independence.
"We could not be with a better group, said editor Gary Shenton. "We will still be proudly independent because we will be part of an independent group and we will stand by the people of Leek."
Your Leek Paper Ltd has many projects, other than Your Leek Paper, including an A4 glossy magazine, Times Gone By, running a design agency and a print management division and has recently launched an online business magazine.

Precisely why Geoffrey Goodman, "would have thought the Barclay brothers would have added a touch more liberalism, competed with the Times for good writing and returned to good reporting" is beyond me. Even the papers staff agree that The Barclay Brothers have moved the traditionally liberal Scotsman to the right. One would add that they have also sacked most of its talented reporters and now, in pieces such as http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=149482005, fuels Scotland's problem with sectarianism while professing to eliminate it. Good writing and reporting? I think not.
