Bangladesh: International Herald Tribune to open printing site
The International Herald Tribune will begin printing in Bangladesh in a new agreement with Cross World Trading Co., which already distributes the Paris-based daily in the country. The paper will now print through its subsidiary IHT Bangladesh Ltd. (IHTBL) and will be available for early morning distribution to news outlets and subscribers in Dhaka and other major cities in the country.
The Dhaka site will be the International Herald Tribune’s thirty-third contract print plant worldwide, with this latest expansion attributed to an increase in circulation in Asia in 2005.
"The launch of a print site in Bangladesh underscores our commitment to delivering The World's Daily Newspaper's broader perspective to an international audience, wherever they are," said Michael Golden, publisher.
Since The New York Times Company became the sole owner of the International Herald Tribune in January 2003, the company has carried out significant investments, including more print sites, an expanded circulation, and an increase in newspaper sections.
As the International Herald Tribune continues to grow in Europe and Asia, it is increasing pressure on both the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal, whose circulation numbers continue to decline. Strong sales in Asia have helped IHT retain a leading position among international newspapers in the region.
