To be eligable to vote, nominations must be submitted by Knight International Press Fellows past or present or you must be apart of the ICFJ staff or trainers.

The awards represent the struggle for independent journalism over seas and give the winners international support as they continue their work.

To nominate an award-winning journalist you must submit an official letter of nomination or e-mail indicating the name of the journalist and most importantly why he/she should receive the Award.

The deadline for entries is Friday, May 5, 2006.

Semi-finalist nominators will then be notified and requested to provide additional material for the selection committee’s review, such as a biography, work samples and letters of recommendation.
 
The Award winners will receive a trip to the United States and a $1000 prize presented during ICFJ’s Excellence in International Journalism Awards dinner November 15, 2006.  
 
Past recipients have ranged from pioneering journalists exposing government corruption to crusading publishers struggling to keep their independent newspaper or broadcast outlet operating. Last year’s winners were Marcelo Beraba, Ombudsman, Folha de S. Paulo (Brazil); Bambang Harymurti, Editor in Chief, Tempo (Indonesia) and Mahjoub Mohamed Salih,  Editor and Co-founder, Al-Ayam (Sudan).
