Bloggers crowd the media scene

By now, this comes as little surprise, but more and more bloggers are invited to sit on the media-reserved seats at a variety of events. About 10% of people on the overall media list at the New York Fashion Week will be bloggers.

It’s true that a number of the bloggers in the list are employed by traditional media. Fabiola Bercasa will blog for Elle and the New York magazine, and both websites will also have models blogging for them.

This doesn’t undermine the trend of bloggers becoming part of the media landscape – whether or not they’re related to traditional media companies.

Most bloggers still don’t have the full credentials though, or credibility, as does the traditional press. "Marc, Ralph, Calvin — anyone who can be referred to by his first name is off limits to bloggers," said Julie Fredrickson, founder of the network of blogs called Coutorture.

On the other hand, as Fredrickson argues, smaller designers (or in general, ‘smaller news’ or ‘smaller events’) can benefit from blog coverage, whereas they would often be overlooked by the bigger players.
