BBC creates Digital Delivery team
BBC Worldwide is creating “Digital Delivery”, a team of about 30 people who will be responsible for developing and launching a number of community-based, video-rich websites. The team is headed by BBC Worldwide managing director for magazines, Marcus Arthur.
Arthur summarizes the purpose of the new team: “The team has been set up to prioritise and focus on a quicker time to market for websites related to programme output based around certain genres ”.
This initiative by the BBC is representative of what some newspaper companies have been doing with their websites and newsrooms. For example, the “quicker time to market” discussed by Marcus is the same idea behind the continuous news desk. And the emphasis on video is what some in the newspaper industry, including Jim Brady of the Washington Post, claim is becoming more and more important to their news sites.
