McClatchy buys local citizen journalism sites

McClatchy’s name appeared in the news after it decided to sell the Star Tribune at half-price from what it bought it for a few years ago. Few people noticed its acquisition of two small citizen journalism websites.
FresnoFamous and ModestoFamous are sister community portals. Jarah Euston originally founded Fresno in 2004, a local website that offers a full range of modern web tools such as podcasts, blogs, Flickr galleries and forums.

McClatchy’s discrete reorientation towards citizen journalism gives an early indication to media analysts of newspaper companies’ 2007 strategies.
