UK: The Sun unveils community site and video content
The MySun welcome page proclaims: "You are the Editors of the Sun." Although this is a bit of a stretch, users are welcome to create blogs, comment on the news, join debates and contribute stories and pictures. Participants can also create a MySun homepage complete with personally selected categories of articles. The personalization gambit takes its cue from News Corp. comrade MySpace.
When the project was reported in March in the Guardian, the Sun vehemently denied its existence.
The Sun has also reported a new video venture. The paper has struck a deal with VideoJug.com, which will provide ten original 'How-To' videos per week, on such topics as making brownies and uploading video to an iPod. The videos can be rated and commented on by users.
Less than two months after the major overhaul of the Sun's website, the paper is taking full advantage of trendy multimedia options. Which may help to keep the paper widely read, both on paper and online.
