Seattle Times' most popular 2005 news story was a sex shocker

An amusing, and alarming, column from the Seattle Times' Danny Westneat who muses that last year he "should have focused more on people having sex with horse" given that the Times' online edition's most read story in 2005 was on precisely this subject.

Westneat continues: "I don't know whether to ignore this alarming factoid or to embrace it."

He asserts that a look at the rest of the top stories in 2005 reveals that horse sex was not the only alarming topic consulted on the Times' website: "It's not just the horse sex. The rest of the top 20 people's-choice list is eye-opening, as well."

Westneat states that although his own column never reached the readers' top 20 before, now that he has mentioned horse sex in it he hopes it might: "As for me, this is my 98th column for 2005. None made the peoples' top 20 — though I have high hopes for this one because it mentions horse sex."

All in all an alarming revelation of what attracts readers' attention.
