Iran blocks access to BBC Persian.com
The BBC has expressed concern that Iranian authorities have blocked access to their online news service BBC Persian.com, the largest internet site in the language.
BBC World Service Director Nigel Chapman made the following statement: "BBC Persian.com is a major source of news for Iranians, and has the biggest impact of any online site or newspaper in Persian. We are very concerned at this action and regret that it deprives a great number of ordinary Iranians of a trusted source of impartial and editorially independent news and information."
The BBC plans to contact the Iranian authorities in order attempt to have access to their Persian news service reinstated. Currently, BBC online news in English is still accessible in Iran.
BBC Persian.com attracts approximately 30 million page views per month; it is the most popular of the BBC non-English language news sites.
