Finland: Newspaper readership rising
The newest media survey in Finland, carried out by Taloustutkimus Oy, shows slightly rising newspaper readership figures for the first time in recent years, reports Helsingin Sanomat. Overall circulation is said to be up as well. Finland is, after Norway and Japan, the country with the third highest circulation of daily newspapers per adult population: 552 daily newspapers per 1000 people (according to World Press Trends 2005). It is remarkable that Finnish newspapers succeeded to raise readership even further.
"It is also a delightful surprise that the online editions of newspapers have not decreased the readership of the printed press. On the contrary, they seem to support each other", said Taisto Riski, Managing Director of the Finnish Newspapers' Association in Helsingin Sanomat.
